Today, Women Winning, Minnesota’s largest women’s political organization, announced its endorsement of Emily Larson for re-election as Duluth Mayor.

“Mayor Larson has a track record of advancing women’s health, opportunity, and independence. During her tenure, she has prioritized protecting access to reproductive health care, establishing pay equity, and advancing statewide policy on paid family leave and earned sick time to make workplaces and communities safer and more inclusive for all Minnesotans,” said Meggie Wittorf, Executive Director of Women Winning.

“The City of Duluth will flourish under four more years of Mayor Larson’s vision and values-based leadership. Her commitment to developing and promoting women’s leadership within city government and her campaign, and encouraging community organizations and businesses to do the same, sets an important example. When only 21% of the nation’s largest cities have women mayors, it is crucial that leaders like Mayor Larson are elevated in Minnesota and nationally.”*

Women Winning has stood with Mayor Larson since her first run for office in 2011 and is proud to be the first organization to endorse her for re-election as mayor. “I have been proud to partner with Women Winning to advance pro-choice women’s representation in Duluth and across Minnesota, and I am honored to receive such a powerful endorsement as I launch my re-election campaign,” said Mayor Larson. “I look forward to working with Women Winning throughout this election cycle as I connect with voters in every neighborhood of the city to earn their votes. My administration has established a strong foundation of transparency, understanding, and community engagement and I am ready to continue our positive growth toward a vibrant future for Duluth. ”

Mayor Larson is a community advocate who stepped up to run for Duluth City Council in 2011. She ran a strong, grassroots, city-wide campaign and was elected as the top vote getter. After serving four years as Council President, she ran for Duluth Mayor in 2015 and won by an impressive margin, receiving 72% of the vote.

Women Winning has been working for 37 years to elect pro-choice women from all political parties to all levels of public office, from park board to President of the United States. In that time, Women Winning has raised and contributed millions of dollars to pro-choice women’s campaigns, endorsed thousands of candidates, and has more than tripled the number of pro-choice women elected officials in Minnesota. It’s endorsement comes with strategic campaign guidance, training, and financial and grassroots support.
