Valerie Jarrett, Senior Advisor to President Obama, was with Women Winning in Minnesota on May 29th and we are honored that she highlighted our work during her appearance on MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show the next day:
“This is about protecting the integrity of our democracy… What I’ve been hearing as I’ve traveled around the country is an increase in concern, coupled with an increase in activism. That is what gives me reason to be hopeful. I was in Minnesota yesterday and met with a group called Women Winning and they are women who support women who run for office who are pro-choice. We need that right now given what’s going on around the country, with state after state passing laws that are infringing on our constitutional rights.”
Ms. Jarrett visited Women Winning’s office for an intimate, roundtable conversation about women’s leadership with the women leaders whose advocacy is affecting change in Minnesota and beyond.
During the two years of the 2018 election cycle, Women Winning met with 280 pro-choice women candidates across the state. In the six months since the November election, we have been contacted by more than 300 pro-choice women for training and support to run for office in 2019 and 2020 — and we’ve already trained more than 200! We are not slowing down. This is a new era of pro-choice women’s leadership and leaders like those who met with Ms. Jarrett are driving the change we deserve.
