Today, Women Winning announced the endorsement of Quinn Nystrom for the U.S. House of Representatives in Minnesota’s Eighth Congressional District.

“Access to affordable healthcare and life-saving prescription drugs has never been more important, and Minnesotans need leaders in Washington who will act boldly on these critical issues. A lifelong advocate for insulin affordability, Quinn Nystrom has the expertise, track record, and fortitude to make real change,” said Meggie Wittorf, Women Winning Executive Director. “Minnesota leads the nation with 50% of our federal delegation comprised of pro-choice women and Women Winning looks forward to expanding that important legacy in 2020. Quinn has the vision, campaign infrastructure, and grassroots support to win in November, and Women Winning will be with her every step of her path to becoming the first woman to represent Minnesota’s Eighth District in Congress.”

Quinn Nystrom

Quinn Nystrom is a fourth-generation resident of Crow Wing County who has spent her life advocating for affordable healthcare and lowering the cost of prescription drugs. Nystrom brings personal experience and a powerful story to the fight for affordable and accessible healthcare, sharing her brother’s struggle with diabetes and her own Type 1 diabetes diagnosis when lobbying U.S. Congress and state legislatures across the country. In 2014, Nystrom became the youngest person ever and the only woman elected to the Baxter, Minnesota City Council. As a councilmember, Nystrom collaborated with local law enforcement to combat sex trafficking, collaborated with community stakeholders to improve mental health care services, and invested in key infrastructure projects.

“Elected leaders make decisions that impact our families, businesses, and communities every day. Now more than ever, we need our best advocates in elected office, and I’m ready to serve and fight for Minnesotans. I am proud to have earned Women Winning’s endorsement in my race to become the first woman to represent my community in Congress. I look forward to partnering with Women Winning on the campaign trail as I earn the support of my neighbors in the Eighth Congressional District.”

Women Winning has been working for 38 years to elect pro-choice women to all levels of public office, from park board to President of the United States. In that time, Women Winning has raised and contributed millions of dollars to pro-choice women’s campaigns, endorsed thousands of candidates, and has more than tripled the number of pro-choice women elected officials in Minnesota. Its endorsement comes with strategic campaign guidance, training, and financial and grassroots support.
