Municipal offices play a significant role in protecting reproductive rights. County and city governments determine zoning for abortion-providing clinics and fund programs that promote reproductive health and support pregnant people and families. Pro-choice women are our best advocates and we must have a seat at decision-making tables.

Pro-choice women are running for important local and municipal offices across Minnesota in 2019 and Women Winning is proud to announce our endorsement of two strong candidates this July.

Women Winning is proud to endorse Nicole Joy Frethem for Ramsey County Commissioner, District 1. Nicole is running in a special election against several male challengers, including a staunchly anti-choice former member of the Minnesota House. With more than a decade of experience as an advocate and policy expert, Nicole’s voice will be an invaluable asset on the county board.

Women Winning is proud to endorse Janet Kennedy for Duluth City Council, District 5. A lifelong resident of West Duluth and current President of the Duluth Planning Commission, Janet will bring valuable insight and experience to the Council.

In order to safeguard reproductive rights, it is critical that pro-choice women walk the halls of power at every level — from the U.S. Capitol and the White House, to the County Government Center and City Hall. Women Winning is committed to ensuring pro-choice women candidates are elected at every level this November and for years to come.
