Today, Women Winning announced its endorsement of Tina Smith for U.S. Senate.
“Tina continues her track record of stepping up during critical moments for Minnesotans. Her steady, collaborative leadership is what we need in the U.S. Senate and will win her the support of Minnesotans for reelection in 2018,” said Lauren Beecham, Executive Director of Women Winning. “Tina makes history, joining Senator Klobuchar to make Minnesota one of the few states to ever be represented by two pro-choice women Senators, and we look forward to working with them to build that lasting legacy.”
Whether in the public or private sector, Smith has been a champion for Minnesota women. From her work protecting women’s access to care as a Vice President of Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, to being an instrumental leader as Lt. Governor for major policy initiatives around economic fairness, broadband internet access in Greater Minnesota, and access to early childhood education, Smith has improved the lives of Minnesotans and she will continue to do so as a United States Senator.
“I am honored to receive Women Winning’s endorsement to increase Minnesota’s already formidable women’s representation in Washington,” said Smith. “It is so powerful to have the support of this influential and growing movement and I’m ready to represent them in the Senate.”
Women Winning has been working for 35 years to elect more pro-choice women to every level of office, from Park Board to President. In that time, the number of women state legislators, county commissioners, and mayors has more than doubled in Minnesota. Its endorsement comes with strategic campaign guidance, training, and financial and grassroots support.
