Mondale Salon

Please join us for Salon Series Presents: Walter Mondale

In the locally produced documentary FRITZ: The Walter Mondale Story. Al Gore comments, "You can divide every vice president in American history into two categories: pre-Walter Mondale and post-Walter Mondale." A lifelong public servant, Mondale served Minnesotans as Attorney General and U.S. Senator and served all Americans as Jimmy Carter's Vice President. In 1984, he made history as the first major party candidate for president to choose a woman as his running mate.

It's not about Democrats or Republicans. It's about human nature," said Mondale. How rarely we hear sentiment like that in these politically divisive times. Mondale changed every institution in which he served for the better. At womenwinning we believe the same is true of each of our candidates. Each pro-choice woman we elect, from park board to U.S. Senate, changes the tone, the work done and the institution as a whole at each level. It is more important than ever that we step up to serve - we can all aspire to be a little more like Walter Mondale.

Don't miss this opportunity to hear from former Vice President Walter Mondale about the importance of public service, breaking down social barriers, and his take on a return to civility in American politics.

Please join us for Salon Series Presents: Women in the Labor Movement

For decades, unions have provided women with a voice in their work place, in electoral politics and in the policy arena.  At this salon we will hear the following women share their experience and their vision of women's leadership roles in the Dayton Administration, the labor movement and in politics.
Kris Eiden - Deputy Commissioner in the Dept of Labor and Industry (DOLI)
Shar Knutson - President of the Minnesota AFL-CIO (the first woman to hold that position!)
Rep. Erin Murphy - an RN and former Executive Director of the Minnesota Nurses Association
Mary Cathryn Ricker - a teacher and President of the St. Paul Federation of Teachers
And our host, Kristin Beckmann - former Executive Director of the SEIU MN State Council

You won't want to miss this opportunity to hear from these women about the current political climate surrounding labor issues (think Wisconsin!) and how women leaders in unions, in elected office and in the Administration are working to ensure that women have a seat at the table.
