Em Westerlund is a first-time candidate running for an open seat on the Duluth City Council in District 3. Em has demonstrated expertise in both environmental and gender justice issues. She has an applied associate’s degree in Natural Resource Technology – Forestry/Wildlife, bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Gender Studies, and master’s degree in Advocacy & Political Leadership from University of Minnesota-Duluth. She served as a Duluth City Human Rights Commissioner for two years as well as Graduate Representative to the University of Minnesota-Duluth Commission on Women. If elected, she will bring a focus on collaboration and strong communication skills to the Duluth City Council in order to build consensus that will move Duluth forward.
