Karen is running for an 19th term in the Minnesota State House. She first ran on a platform of promoting economic and social justice in her South Minneapolis district. Two decades later, she still stands for policies to improve her community. As a former OB/GYN nurse and a nurse organizer, Karen makes women’s health issues a top priority. Karen had a big hand in creating the law that legalized same-sex marriage in Minnesota, an issue near and dear to her heart as the longest serving openly lesbian woman in any state legislature. When reelected, Karen will continue to fight for public safety, affordable housing and transportation, civil rights protection and environmental justice.
