Toni is running for reelection to be a Ramsey County Commissioner. Toni is the first African-American to serve on a County Board in Minnesota. She was first elected to the Board in 2005. As a former teacher and chair of the Saint Paul Board of Education, Toni makes decisions that benefit the youth of her community. She was an advocate for programs that benefit children in less advantaged neighborhoods, such as the Saint Paul Children’s Collaborative and the Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood. She also helped to create the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative, which expanded options for disciplining low-risk youth. Toni championed the building of the Central Corridor Green Line Light Rail to make jobs more easily accessible, bringing new people to neighborhoods along University Avenue, and to keep people and communities connected. In her spare time, Toni stays active on a number of community boards and acts at the Penumbra Theatre.
