Representative Youakim was first elected to the Minnesota State House in 2014 serving the people of Hopkins and St Louis Park in District 46B. She brings years of experience in public service to the table; prior to working on a State level, Cheryl held a seat on the Hopkins City Council from 2005-2015. Cheryl has many years of experience advocating for early childhood education funding. She founded the non-profit Start Learning Early with the goal of raising awareness of the importance of early learning programs in the West Metro. Cheryl represents her council on the Southwest Light Rail Transit (SWLRT) Corridor Management Committee and the League of Minnesota Cities Economic Development Committee. Cheryl says that her experience on the SWLRT Committee has helped her realize that a multi-modal transit system will help ease traffic congestion and keep transportation costs down for the growing population in Hopkins and St. Louis Park, who will benefit from the development of the SWLRT line.
