Susan is running for a third term in the Minnesota State House. She is the first Native American woman to serve in the Minnesota Legislature and the first openly lesbian Native American to be elected to any legislature in the United States. Susan was elected in 2012 after more than a decade of practicing law; she has made social justice the focus of much of her work in the House. Susan works tirelessly for victims of discrimination. She hopes to strengthen the status of Minnesota women in the workforce by promoting pay equity and creating more opportunities for women to fill high-ranking positions. When reelected, Susan will continue to advocate for education, tax reform and healthcare.
