Betty is running for an tenth term in Congress. First elected in 2000, she was the second woman from Minnesota to serve in Congress since Coya Knutson ended her service in 1959. She sits on the House Appropriations Committee and is the Senior Democratic Whip. Throughout her service she has championed education, environmental protection, fiscal responsibility and increased healthcare access. Previous to her political career, Betty worked for 25 years in retail sales and management and as a social science teacher. She has consistently protected women’s reproductive freedom as well as LGBTQ civil rights.
