Women Winning Endorses an Unprecedented 67 Candidates for the 2010 Election Cycle
Largest and Most Influential Statewide Women’s PAC has Contributed $1.5 Million to more than 2,000 Women’s Campaigns since 1982
Saint Paul, Minnesota, Oct. 20, 2010 – womenwinning announced today an unprecedented number of endorsed candidates for the 2010 state and federal election cycle. womenwinning, the only non-partisan, pro-choice women’s organization with both a State and Federal Political Action Committee (PAC) in the state of Minnesota, raises and spends money to elect pro-choice women candidates at every level of office, from Park Board to United States Senate.
“womenwinning is proud to announce its list of endorsed candidates for the 2010 federal and state elections who will champion policies to better the lives of women and families across the state of Minnesota,” said Sarah Taylor-Nanista, Executive Director of womenwinning. “Whether working to improve the quality of school lunches, ensuring the safety of infant products we give to our children, defending the quality of our water or fighting for comprehensive sexual education in our schools – these candidates are making Minnesota a better place for women and families.”
womenwinning’s endorsement makes a big impact on campaigns. The vast majority of endorsed candidates receive the maximum financial contribution. But womenwinning does more than just write a check. In 2010, womenwinning raised more than $200,000 in direct contributions to its endorsed candidates. The organization trained candidates and their staffs on how to be effective fundraisers, brought members out to vote in the candidates’ caucuses, knocked on doors, and called likely voters.
"The support of womenwinning has been a big part of our campaign's success to date,” said Senator Tarryl Clark, womenwinning endorsed candidate for Congress in Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District. “The collective power of thousands of women coming together to support other women is not only inspiring, it's empowering – and it has generated tangible results across Minnesota, in every level of government."
“Nationally, pundits are predicting this will be the first year since 1976 that the number of women holding federal office will decline. We’re committed to holding our fourth place ranking of women’s representation in government in Minnesota. That’s why we are so proud to have such an extensive and impressive list of candidates.” said Taylor-Nanista.

About womenwinning
The mission of womenwinning is to encourage, promote and support pro-choice women's leadership in all political parties and levels of public office. womenwinning was established in 1982 by 25 non-partisan pro-choice women who wanted to increase the number of women in public office. Twenty eight years later, womenwinning is the largest and most influential statewide women’s PAC. Since 1982, it has given one million dollars to more than 2000 women’s campaigns through direct contributions and support for candidate training and recruitment.
Since its inception, the percentage of women state legislators, county commissioners and mayors has doubled. womenwinning is the only non-partisan, pro-choice women’s organization with both a State and Federal Political Action Committee (PAC) in the state of Minnesota. The organization raises and spends money to elect pro-choice women candidates at every level of office, from Park Board to United States Senate.
womenwinning identifies pro-choice women ready to run for office and women at all levels of office that have a proven track record to fill the pipeline for higher office. Once candidates are identified, womenwinning helps them secure the funds they need to win their race. The organization endorses and provides funds at the maximum campaign finance limit; holds fundraisers among its membership of over 5,000 people; and trains candidates and their staff on ways to raise the money necessary to win.
