Dear Friends,

The 2016 election still feels like yesterday, but—believe it or not—2017 is almost over. Here at womenwinning we are firing on all cylinders, hitting the ground running for get-out-the-vote efforts for our 2017 candidates, looking closely at 2018, and even thinking about how we can have an impact in Minnesota and in Washington in 2020.

Why does this work matter? Because women still comprise only 33% of the legislature in Minnesota, despite making up half of our state’s population. Minnesota, like 22 other states in our nation, has never had a woman governor. And women hold fewer than 20% of seats in the U.S. Congress.

We have the power to change these disheartening statistics, and it starts NOW, in 2017. Across Minnesota, we have the opportunity to elect pro-choice women to offices from school board, to city council, to mayor. In Minneapolis, we could have the first-ever pro-choice woman majority on the city council. And in 2018, we’ll have the chance to elect Minnesota’s first woman governor.

There has never been more support for changing the face of power in our state, and in our nation, but it will take all of us to achieve lasting change. You’ve already taken the first step by becoming a member of womenwinning, and this fall, I ask you to consider how you can step up your support of pro-choice women’s leadership. Can you volunteer for a candidate? Ask that awesome friend or colleague to run for office? Support womenwinning by joining our Action Network?

Together, we can ensure that the end of 2017 is only the beginning for pro-choice women across Minnesota.

Onward,
Lauren Beecham
Executive Director

Members drive our movement...and we’re proud to introduce you to a few
more of them!

Our annual Men for womenwinning event raises critical funds for womenwinning’s
work while also shining the spotlight on our pro-choice male supporters. Each year,
a Planning Committee made up of volunteers gets together to plan every aspect of
the event—from location, to guests, to the silent auction.

The 2017 event, which took place on September 19th at Utepils Brewing in
Minneapolis, raised more than $11,000 to support womenwinning’s work to recruit,
train, and elect pro-choice women. Thank you to our Planning Committee and to all
who attended the event! For more information about volunteering or joining an event
planning committee, please contact development@womenwinning.org.

Candidate Endorsement Report

Founded in 1982, womenwinning has been working for 35 years to elect more
pro-choice women to every level of office, from Park Board to President. In that time,
the number of women state legislators, county commissioners, and mayors has more
than doubled in Minnesota. Our endorsement comes with strategic campaign guidance,
training, and financial and grassroots support.

There are no “off-years” at womenwinning, and we are thrilled to have supported more
than forty pro-choice women at all levels of office so far in 2017. Visit our Endorsements
page to see the latest list and learn more about pro-choice women who are running in
your area.

*The 2017 Endorsed Candidates list contains candidates who are endorsed by
womenwinning in their current and active election cycles for 2017 and 2018 elections -
it will continue to grow.
