The newly endorsed candidates include:

  1. US Senator Amy Klobuchar

  3. Jillia Pessenda for Minneapolis City Council (Ward 1)
  4. Raeisha Williams for Minneapolis City Council (Ward 5)

  7. Lisa Bender for Minneapolis City Council (Ward 10)
  8. Erica Mauter for Minneapolis City Council (Ward 11)
  9. Linea Palmisano for Minneapolis City Council (Ward 13)

“It is incredibly exciting to start off 2017 with  this slate of qualified, hard-working, pro-choice woman candidates running for public office at so many levels. These women will represent the values that we hold near and dear to us in Minnesota, and will make sure that a more diverse set of voices are heard at decision making tables in our state, and in our nation’s capital,” said Lauren Beecham, Executive Director of womenwinning. “We cannot wait to see the very real difference that will come from electing so many women who are ready to make change. Women around the country are rallying together in the dismal political climate, and these women will work tirelessly to lead the charge.”

Each of the candidates, whether incumbents or making their first foray into elected politics, has demonstrated a unique dedication to improving the lives of women in Minnesota through the power of elected office.

"I am humbled and deeply honored to receive the endorsement of an organization that supports pro-choice women candidates," said first-time candidate Andrea Jenkins, who will be the first transgender member of the Minneapolis City Council if elected. "As an African American, transgender woman I have a broad understanding of the issues challenging marginalized communities, and I look forward to working with womenwinning's statewide network of pro-choice allies, as well as other partners, to bring leadership, access, and equity to City Hall."

“After 2016, it is so gratifying to see pro-choice women continue to step up to lead,” says Beecham. “Our movement to elect pro-choice women is growing faster than we’ve ever seen, and it’s become more important than ever to support strong women leaders like our 2017 endorsed candidates.”

womenwinning’s endorsement comes with significant power. Through strategic campaign guidance, training, and financial support, womenwinning has helped to elect hundreds of women since its founding in 1982, including 259 since 2011 alone.
