Senator Linda Berglin served in the Minnesota House from 1971 to 1981 and Minnesota Senate since 1982. Linda Higgins State Senator, District 58
Linda Higgins has successfully carried bills that increased funding for basic sliding-fee childcare, after-school enrichment, adolescent parenting and smaller class sizes. In addition, she has fought for affordable healthcare, clean air and water and safer neighborhoods. Senator Higgins is an avid environmentalist and aims to empower kids to make good choices about their lives. Earlier this year, for example, she ensured 2.5 million dollars for summer jobs for Minneapolis youth in the Senate’s Jobs bill. Mee Moua, the first Hmong-American elected into a state legislature, is serving her second term in the Minnesota State Senate as a member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party. Moua obtained an undergraduate degree from Brown University, a master's degree from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Minnesota Law School. Ann Rest received her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and her Masters from the University of Chicago. A native of Illinois and graduate of the University of Iowa, Kathy Saltzman has lived in Minnesota since 1979. Prior to her foray into political office, she was the Communications Director and lobbyist for Schools for Equity in Education (SEE). In 1994, she was appointed to serve in the Mayor’s Office of Children and Families by St. Paul Mayor Norm Coleman. Kathy Sheran State Senator, DFL-23
Born in Mankato, Kathy Sheran received her BSN from the College of St. Teresa and her Masters from MSU-Mankato. Before running for political office, Sheran was an RN and educator for 35 years. In 1983, she was elected as the President of the Mankato City Council, and she served four terms as Mayor pro-tem. Sheran was elected for her first term to the Minnesota Senate in 2006.
