Patty Acomb Candidate for Minnetonka City Council At-Large, Seat B

Patty Acomb is a first time City Council candidate running to fill an open seat for the Minnetonka Council. Currently she serves as the Minnetonka Park Board Vice-Chair, and has both education and professional experience in natural resource management. As a candidate for city council, Patty Acomb will seek to provide balance to the Minnetonka City Council. She is also a firm supporter of women candidates in all levels of elected office, and defends affirmative action policies that give equal opportunities to all minorities.

Joni Bennett Edina City Council



Joni Bennett is a first term incumbent running for the Edina City Council. She serves as the Council representative to the Community Education Services Board of the Edina Public Schools. She is a licensed attorney with a law degree from Columbia University. Bennett volunteered ten years as an officer and program planner for the Morningside Woman’s club. If re-elected, she will work to ensure that public services and amenities are available to female-headed households and among people over the age of 65.

 Amy Brendmoen is a first time City Council candidate running against incumbent Lee Helgen in Saint Paul Ward 5. Her professional career began at the Minnesota attorney general's office where she spent eleven years honing skills as an advocate, mediator and spokesperson for under-represented people and businesses from all over the state. As a candidate for city council, Amy Brendmoen will strive to protect public employees rights and benefits. Sandy Colvin Roy Minneapolis City Council



Sandy Colvin Roy is a third term Minneapolis City Councilwoman representing Ward 12. She has 15 years of small business experience and a has been an active volunteer for 20 y ears in Minneapolis arts, parks, public schools and girl scouts. She is a member of the Sierra Club, Citizens for a Better Environment, Minnesota Women's Political Caucus, and Transit for Livable Communities.

Molly Cummings, Hopkins

Molly is a first time candidate running for city council in Hopkins. Molly has deep roots in the community as a 23 year resident. Over the years she has served as Chair of the Hopkins Park Board, the Hopkins Zoning and Planning Commission and is currently Vice Chair of the Avenues Neighborhood Association. Molly has garnered support for her campaign from current and past council members. She has volunteered countless hours both in her community and in the greater Minnesota community including six years at a women's shelter where she cooked for, served and dined monthly with 25 homeless women in Minneapolis.

Sharla Gardner Duluth City Council (District 3)


Sharla Gardner is a first term Duluth City Council Member representing District 3, and is currently serving as the President of the City Council.  Before her work on the Duluth City Council, Sharla Gardner worked as a child support officer for St Louis County Health & Human Services. Her volunteer background includes Duluth Playhouse, Duluth League of Women Voters and the DFL party. She also worked on the Northland Anti-war Coalition Steering Committee, Minnesota Support and Recovery Council, Duluth Central Labor Council and Progressive Action Committee. While on the council, Gardner has worked to end sex trafficking in Duluth, increase the salaries for child support workers, and prevent the re-location of Level Three predatory sex offenders. In addition, she advocates affordable health care and creating living wage jobs.

Council Member Glidden is currently in her 2nd term as Minneapolis City Council Member, Ward 8. Lisa Goodman Minneapolis City Council


Lisa Goodman has been Minneapolis’ Ward 7 Councilmember since 1997. She has a long history of working on women’s issues and has served as executive director of MN NARAL. Betsy Hodges Minneapolis City Council

Betsy has served as City Council Member in Ward 13 since 2005 and was re-elected in 2009. Before being elected to City Council, Betsy was co-chair of the Linden Hills Neighborhood Council for two years and on the board for four. Betsy founded the Dinner Network, helped start the Legacy Project, and was co-chair of C-17, the commission appointed by the City Council to examine the feasibility of a privately funded ballpark.

Jennifer Julsrud is a first time candidate running in Duluth-District 1 for the City Council. Kathleen Juenemann Maplewood City Council

Kathleen has been a Councilmember for 7 ½ years in the city of Maplewood. She recently was re-elected in 2009 but has been a community activist for nearly 22 years. She was responsible for establishing a curbside recycling program in Maplewood and has advocated for environmental concerns while on the city council. Elizabeth Knight

Elizabeth has worked for the Minnesota State Senate, City of Saint Paul, and City of Brooklyn Center within the administrative and legislative branches. Elizabeth has experience providing legal and policy analysis, and research and recommendations to the St. Paul City Council. Elizabeth served as a Human Rights Specialist for the City of Saint Paul, as a Board member of the League of Minnesota Human Rights Commission, and as Chair of the Brooklyn Park Human Rights Commission. Linda Krug Candidate for City Council, Duluth

Linda Krug is a first time candidate, running for an at-large seat on the Duluth City Council. She is currently the co-director of the Master’s program in Advocacy and Political Leadership (MAPL) at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where she served as dean of the College of Liberal Arts for 11 years. Krug has also been the president of the faculty union at UMD, the owner of a small business, and a community catalyst with the Duluth creative communities initiative. In March, Krug was appointed by Governor Dayton to serve as an At-Large member of the state-wide Commission on Judicial Selection; in addition, she sits on the Tourism Tax Task Force, as well as numerous other boards.  Krug is dedicated to creating a safe, secure, and economically prosperous community for women and girls.

Peggy Kvam is a City Council candidate running to fill an open seat for the Minnetonka Council.  She has significant experience in an array of civic activities, including serving as Treasurer of Hackett for Congress 2010 Campaign, League of Women Voters local and state board member, and serving as a “Kitchen Cabinet” member on Maria Ruud’s first two MN House campaigns. Kathy Lantry- St. Paul City Council, Ward 7

Kathy Lantry is the President of the St Paul City Council and has served since 1998. Emily Larson Duluth City Council at Large

Emily Larson is a first time candidate and is running for the open at large seat in Duluth. She has lived in Duluth for 20 years and graduated from St. Scholastica. She then went on to receive a Master’s Degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Today, she owns a consulting practice focused on workforce and economic development. She currently is coordinating Duluth at Work on behalf of Duluth Local Initiatives Support Corporation (Duluth LISC) and supports the United Way of Greater Duluth’s efforts to increase on-time graduation rates.

Nevada Littlewolf Virginia City Council

Nevada is running for re-election to the Virginia City Council. She was first elected in 2008, is currently the only woman serving on the council, and is the first Native American Woman elected to the Virginia City Council.  Littlewolf is the Rural Leadership Field Organizer for the White House Project and has made a career out of recruiting and training more women to run for office in rural Minnesota. She is also a contract trainer with Wellstone Action for their Native American Leadership Program.  Littlewolf is a strong candidate and will continue to make decisions with the well-being of women and all communities at the forefront.

Melissa Martinson Medina City Council

Melissa Martinson is currently serving her first term on the Medina City Council. Martinson has extensive management experience both in the corporate and non-profit worlds. Jeanne Mason Spring Lake Park City Council

Jeanne Mason has been actively serving the people of Spring Lake Park for over 34 years. She has served on the Spring Lake City Council for 28 years. Prior to that, she served on the School Board for six years. Jeanne is an active member of several boards including the Northern Cable Commission and the North Star Corridor. Mason's long hsitory of serving positions her to be a strong voice for seniors.

Anne Mavity St. Louis Park City Council

Anne Mavity was elected to the St. Louis Park City Council in Ward 2 in 2009. Anne has over 20 years of experience in strengthening communities locally, nationally, and internationally, and is a leader in her community. She has been a Commissioner of the St. Louis Park Housing Authority, Site Council representative in her children's school, a soccer coach for young girls in St. Louis Park, and is currently on the Board of the St. Louis Park Community Foundation. If elected, her key issues will be human-scale development, fiscal discipline, collaboration among schools and city, and engaging residents in the decision-making process.

Beth Mercer-Taylor Falcon Heights City Council


Beth Mercer-Taylor received her Masters in Public Policy at Valparaiso University, her undergraduate degree from University of California, Berkeley and also attended Amherst College. She has been active as a Commission member, a board-member of Roseville Block Nurse, a co-chair of Minnesota Citizens League Tax Policy Committee and a co-founder of the Como Minnesota Youth Ski League. As a Falcon City Council Member, Mercer-Taylor is devoted to strengthening city neighborhoods, involving citizens and youth in city government and environmental care.

Suzie Nakasian Northfield City Council


Suzie Nakasian helped start Grass Roots Transit Initiative, a local collaboration which facilitates access to mass transportation options in Northfield. Nakasian has served as secretary of the League of Women Voters of Northfield, co-chair of the Northfield Environmental Quality Commission, and as a member of the East Side Neighborhood Association. If elected, she will prioritize access to employment for women who depend on mass transportation to get to and from work opportunities.

Julia Ross St. Louis Park City Council


Julia Ross was elected to serve her first term for Ward 4 on the St. Louis Park City Council in 2009. She has spent the last fifteen years as an administrative assistant with Hennepin County and has also worked in the past with the Minnesota Women's Consortium, helped organized "A Day on the Hill" with her union during the 90s and coordinated a phone bank for Gail Dorman's special election Hennepin County Commissioner, Ward 3. Ross's primary goals are to maintain and develop affordable housing for families and senior citizens, to create new business developments that bring jobs paying a livable wage to workers, and to focus on improving public safety in neighborhoods.

 Susan Sanger St. Louis Park City Council

 
Susan has been on the Saint Louis Park City Council since 1995 and is seeking re-election. She has worked on countless committees, including the policy advisory committee for planning the potential southwest light rail transit line. In the past she has volunteered as a family planning counselor. She has also worked on several campaigns for pro-choice women. Her key issues include promoting strong neighborhoods and quality of life for her constituents.

Patty Shafer Hibbing City Council (Ward B)

Shafer is currently Hibbing's Ward B councilmember. Shafer has repeatedly stood up for the citizens of Hibbing and will continue to do so throughout her term. She has addressed issues of animal control, the construction of a raceway, and initiatives to sell public park space to a private firm. Shafer hopes to continue working for the community and representing Ward B.

JoEllen Thacker Fergus Falls City Council (Ward 4)


Prior to her election to City Council, Thacker served as the assistant to the city administrator for over ten years. Her experience and knowledge about the city’s government made her an excellent candidate, and she continues to meet the needs and expectations of the citizens of Fergus Falls. In her role as councilmember, she serves on several committees, such as the Equalization Committee, Finance, Personnel, and Development Committee, Airport Committee, Legislative Committee, and the Senior Citizens Committee.

Meg Tuthill is serving her first term as Minneapolis Ward 10 Councilmember. Meg has been a community activist for the past 30 years volunteering with the Minneapolis Public Schools, City Parks, Girl Scouts and Gay Pride. Along with her husband Dennis, she has been a small business owner in the 10th Ward for the last 40 years. She plans to focus on regulatory services to help women small business owners, ensuring that city tax dollars are spent wisely, increasing the accessibility and transparency of the city council, and making public safety the city’s first priority.

Elizabeth Weir Medina City Council

City Council in Eden Prairie. Butcher Wickstrom served as a member of the council from 1997-2008. Cheryl was recently re-elected to the Hopkins city council after already serving 3 ½ years. Cheryl is also the founder and co-chairs a non-profit organization called Start Learning Early, which helps to organize parents to advocate for quality Early Childhood education. Cheryl believes strongly in citizen engagement and believes that leadership means empowering others to lead as well as leading yourself.
